Mediterranean Orthotrichaceae
The Mediterranean basin is home to a high diversity of Orthotrichaceae (Ros et al., 2013, Hodgetts & Lockhart 2020). In this biodiversity hotspot (CEPF), 68 species and varieties of this family are found, 83 % of all those known in Europe, North Africa and the Near East. Of these, 15 species are endemic or almost exclusively found in this biogeographic area.
